The similarities are fairly obvious; franchise companies succeed when they have specific programs and proven systems that are followed by the number, in order to deliver profits and success for each franchisee. Years of military service instills the expectation that proper training, strong operations and excellent communication can deliver the best chance for success in any campaign. So it’s no wonder that 28 years ago the International Franchise Association (IFA) established VetFran to accomplish important tasks.
The mission of VetFran is two-fold:
Educate franchise companies and experienced veterans about the many similarities between the two sectors, and why entrepreneurial veterans could profit from the proven systems of legitimate franchising opportunities.
Facilitate the transition of veterans into franchising by enlisting select franchisors to offer financial incentives to veterans, while also providing resources and tools to assist in the transition.
As a likely result from the VetFran program, established in 1991, over 14% of franchises in America have been awarded to veterans!
This month, the Shuckin’ Shack Franchising team, based in Wilmington, NC is proud to announce our acceptance into the VetFran program. Effective immediately, our team will begin to offer significant discounts on our initial franchise fees to make restaurant ownership more likely for those who have dutifully served our country. These up-front incentives for veterans are even more powerful when combined with the 3-4-5 staggered royalty system that Shuckin’ Shack has put into place since it began franchising in 2014. Not surprisingly, with 16 locations open in the Southeast, “The Shack” already had a veteran as one of our earliest franchisees, thanks to Jason Simas who has been operating the Shuckin’ Shack Oyster Bar of Surf City for nearly four years, with his wife Beverly - a civilian who also worked within the Air Force. Will & Kat, our franchisees for the Shuckin’ Shack in Morehead City, NC, are veterans, and one of our newest franchisees set to open in Ocala, FL later this year, is also a veteran.
